Literacy Grants for Libraries

Does your library do early childhood reading readiness programs, adult literacy services or other “literacy and education” programs? The Wish You Well Foundation provides is an interesting grant opportunity for libraries providing such programs. The foundation’s “donation” program is extremely simple to apply for, and typically provides awards ranging from $200 to $10,000. The application consists of a simple one-page application form, a one-page proposal and any supplemental information the library wishes to provide. These are the things to remember:

  • The proposal must align with the Wish You Well Foundation’s mission: “Supporting family literacy in the United States by fostering and promotint the development and expansion of new and existing literacy and educational programs.” I recommend that applications emphasize the combination of family and literacy.
  • The application must be made by a 501-c-3 organization, typically a Library Friends group or Foundation.
