Public Library Directors, please join us! The Fall 2017 Directors Institute will be held Friday, September 15th at The Barn Bed & Breakfast Inn in Valley Falls. The day begins at 8am with registration and breakfast; program begins at 8:30am. We’ll be finished by 3pm. Here’s what we have planned: agenda (pdf).

Our theme is “Building Better Communities”, and we have two excellent presentations lined up.

First, Judy Keller and Mary Loftus, nonprofit development consultants, will talk about building dreams for your library’s programs, collections and spaces. They’ll give ideas for partnering with community individuals and organizations to start making those dreams come true.

Second, Christina Ostmeyer, Summer Food Advocate for Kansas Appleseed, will explore one way for libraries to expand their reach into the community—through after-school and summer meal programs for youth.

Many of our Directors have experience with one or both of these programs, so get ready to come learn from your peers!

During the day, you will also have time to discuss how your library meets (or exceeds!) the NEKLS Accreditation Standards with directors of libraries of similar sizes. Bring your ideas and best practices. And NEKLS staff will be on hand to help answer questions.

Cost is $10. Payable in advance by check mailed to NEKLS or by credit card (call NEKLS). Payable day-of by credit card, check, or cash; receipts will be provided.

Register by Wednesday, September 6th at https://goo.gl/forms/TA2UUUjc8ybap8oT2. Please note that the registration form asks a few questions about your library’s involvement with after-school and summer food programs for youth. If your library doesn’t offer either, just disregard.

See you at The Barn!
