Retirement… relocation… illness… often, trustees don’t like to think about replacing the library director, yet every year a number of NEKLS library boards are faced with that challenging decision. I would like to extend my personal invitation to attend Searching for and Selecting a Library Director on November 13th at the NEKLS system office. This is a unique and important opportunity for a number of reasons:

  • Over one-third of the current library directors in NEKLS public libraries have been hired within the past five years. In a number of cases, library boards have needed to hire more than one library director within a three-year period. Therefore it is quite possible that any library board may be faced with this important and challenging task.
  • We have a one-time opportunity for training on this topic from prominent national experts in library director searches who also are familiar with the circumstance of libraries in our area: JoBeth Bradbury, former NEKLS consultant, and Dan Bradbury, former director of the Kansas City Missouri Public Library and Rolling Hills Public Library. The Bradburys own and direct Gossage Sager Associates, a top library executive search company, and advise library boards throughout the United States in library director searches.
  • Trustees may use this workshop to meet the library board training requirement in the NEKLS accreditation standards for either 2010 or 2011.

I hope to see many of you there!
